India's General Elections as well as Maharashtra's State Assembly Elections will be held later this year (most likely April/May for the General Elections and Sept/Oct for the State Elections). The schedule has yet to be announced so rest assured you can still get registered to vote.
In the past I had posted on how to get your Election Photo Identity Card (EPIC). However, it seems the task has proven to be a difficult one going by the comments I received there.
But now there is a simple solution. Just go to Jaagore and follow their step-by-step instructions. I've heard so many success stories of the fine effort they are doing, that really it is the one stop-shop to get registered and vote this year.
So, what are you waiting for? Click here and Jaago re!

Wow !
I feel priviliged :)
Have filled out my application and will register soon. Also, want to set myself a target of getting atleast 5 friends registered.
thanks a lot
I had a lot of trouble registering on their site - maybe the volume of traffic was a lot more when I tried (Nov 2008).. I finally just printed out the form from the AGNI website, and took the documents across to the registration office.. it took all of 10 minutes to fill up the form. The registration itself took almost 3 hours of waiting in line. Make sure you have all the required documents - read the form carefully as to what is admissable and what's not. I had taken a copy of my driver's licence as address proof because my passport was in the process of getting renewed.. the officer at the desk refused to accept my license and we argued for almost 10 minutes before I finally showed him the form and pointed out "driver's license" on the list of approved documents..
Megha - Thanks very much and wow! I am impressed with your resolve and target! Do please share your experience. As you can see in the comments, Sanjana's experience is quite different.
Sanjana - Thanks for the comment. Actually I've never tried Jaagore.com myself but I've heard so many positive things about it. Sounds like a painful process for registration, but hey, it's over and you did it! I wish more people shared their experience for voter registration so that the feedback can be sent to The Election Commission.
no pain, no gain, right? I'm waiting till the 10th - when the lists are put up. Hopefully my name made it there! It's important to remember that just getting an EPIC doesn't give you the right to vote.. your name has to be on the electoral list in order for you to cast your vote.
wow, great post.i am impressed your target.please can you give some instructions how to reach target.

Sanjana - Have you blogged about your experience? (sorry if you already have. I'm slowly getting back to reading/writing blog posts so I'm sure I've missed it). I admire your spirit and wish everyone else had the same enthu levels! Thanks for the comment as always.
Vikram - Not sure which targets you were referring to. Thanks for the comment.
I have to be honest - I did it because I recently joined a semi-government unit, and figured I had to turn up with the black dot on my finger.. I wish everyone could be "shamed" into doing the same.
I haven't blogged about it yet. I plan to soon (tied up with work and gmat issues till the 21st).
Also, I've joined this group called Bombay United - we're hoping to put up info on a website.. there's already a surprising amount of information on the internet.. people just don't know where to look for it. The planned website will link all this info under one roof...
Also, I think Vikram is referring to Megha's target :-)
Sanjana - A few of us are trying to do our bit with VoteYatra. The site is still being constructed but do visit. And I'm looking forward to Bombay United (also have you looked at Mumbai Votes?) and your post.
Thanks for the links.. I will check them out. This is exactly what I'm talking about - so much information available, but no one knows where to look. My idea for Bombay United is one where all the content is not necessarily hosted on the site, but it will contain (working) links to information that's already out there..
Hi,
I was reading ur blog posts and found some of them to be very good.. u write well.. Why don't you popularize it more.. ur posts on ur blog ‘Mumbai Matters’ took my particular attention as some of them are interesting topics of mine too;
BTW I help out some ex-IIMA guys who with another batch mate run www.rambhai.com where you can post links to your most loved blog-posts. Rambhai was the chaiwala at IIMA and it is a site where users can themselves share links to blog posts etc and other can find and vote on them. The best make it to the homepage!
This way you can reach out to rambhai readers some of whom could become your ardent fans.. who knows.. :)
Cheers,
Bombay Addict, this is a wonderful effort!
I have already acquired my voter's id and have voted twice.Very proud! :)

Jaagore is an excellent initiative taken up by some individuals. But still there is this problem of bogus voting in various states of India. I wonder when this menace will be curbed.
